The photos in this first batch were taken in January and February, before the necessary pandemic restrictions were in place. It now seems like a distant bygone era. Hannah saw in the New Year with us and then returned to DC. Mysterious Galaxy, our favourite local independent book store, reopened in its new location in Point Loma; Mary and I were there for the opening day celebrations. The pelicans that hang out on the Shelter Island fishing pier were generous in providing photo opportunities for David. We had breakfast at Encinitas Cafe and, when we walked on the nearby beach, we were surprised to see an osprey looming above us, high on the cliffs. Mary's group of crafting enthusiasts met in person, not via Zoom.We celebrated David's birthday at Izakaya Masa, little knowing that this would be our last meal out for a long time.

After a long and active life, our wonderful cat Stella died, aged 22 years, on December 30th.
